Open Gesture - FAQ

NOTE: Upon first install restart your device. This gives it fresh clean memory to work with.

We have tried our best to create an app that is useful, efficient and bug-free but we are not perfect. Our goal  is to make your android experience more enjoyable and not frustrating.

So if you come across any issues, please report them. If you don’t then we will never know about them and won’t be able to provide a fix.

What is Open Gesture?
Please see the product page for details: http://www.hollowire.com/open-gesture

I don’t like the banners on Open Gesture Lite.
The Lite version is Ad banner supported version and was meant to give users a complete experience of what Open Gesture is like. If you don’t like the banner version then please upgrade to the Pro version which is available for $4.99

How can you report issues?
Use the forum or just send an email to: support [at] hollowire [dot] com

How can I upgrade my current version of Open Gesture Pro (1.4.6)?
Due to a glitch in the Android Marketplace we had to re-publish Open Gesture Pro. The app is the same with regards to features but we had to change the technical name of the application. Unfortunately this will install as a new app. Please purchase the new app of Open Gesture Pro and send us the Google checkout number of the purchase to support [at] hollowire [dot] com. Once the evaluation period has expired (24 hours) we will refund your old purchase of Open Gesture Pro.

We are very sorry of the inconvenience! Our experience with the Android marketplace has been bumpy at best. We are actively looking for other alternatives.

The app keeps force closing on me. What do I do?
This could happen for a variety of reasons. Please download Log Collector (http://bit.ly/logcat) from the Android Market (it’s free) and email the log files to support [at] hollowire [dot] com

For inexplicable force closes or crashes please send us your log files. This gives us a better insight into the problem.

Open Gesture is not opening!?!
Please try the following:
1. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage Apps > Home.
2. Under the section “Launch by default” click on the button “Clear Defaults”.
3. Then you can click on the Home button and you will be presented with a menu showing various Home replacement apps you have installed. From there you can select Open Gesture

Why it is a bit laggy/slow ?
The speed of the Home replacement is directly proportional to the number of widgets and apps that are running in the background. On a device such as the G1 which already has low memory its best to watch how many widgets and apps you can use.

What is the optimal number of widgets / background apps I can have running for optimal use?
That is very relative and based on your device and its configuration. You might need to play around to see what is best for your device.

Where do I get themes?
Currently, we don’t have any themes but you can download and use any Open Home or aHome compatible theme from the Android market.

Can I edit / delete pre-loaded gestures? I don’t like the ones you created.

Yep, sure you can. From the home screen click on the hand icon which will bring up the Gesture area from there click on Menu > Manage Gestures. You will see a list of gestures, long press on any of them and it will present you with a menu to Edit / Delete.

It is not recognizing my gestures. What should I do?
We’ve provided a preference setting for the gesture recognition sensitivity. To access it go to the home screen > Menu > More > Preferences > Gesture Sensitivity.  Low makes it lenient, high makes it strict. Adjust it to your liking.

Can I customize the Swipe up or Swipe down gestures on the home screen?
You cannot customize the swipe up gesture but you can surely customize the swipe down gesture. To access it go to the home screen > Menu > More > Preferences > Swipe Down, you can choose any options present in the Menu.

I don’t like the theme I selected. How do I change it?
Easy, just go back to the default theme or choose another one. To access it go to the home screen > Menu > More > Preferences > Themes
